|discussion=<p><i>Carex oligocarpa</i> is frequent, particularly in the Midwest. When <i>C. oligocarpa</i> grows with <i>C. planispicata</i>, it usually grows farther upslope than <i>C. planispicata</i>, apparently in drier soils. The two species do grow intermingled in some localities.</p>
