Herbs, annual. Stems erect, glabrous [sparsely glandular]. Leaves basal and cauline, opposite; petiole absent; blade fleshy, not leathery, margins entire. Inflorescences axillary, flowers solitary; bracts present. Pedicels present; bracteoles absent. Flowers bisexual; sepals 5, proximally connate, calyx bilaterally symmetric, campanulate, lobes oblong; corolla pale blue to lavender [yellow], bilaterally symmetric, bilabiate, tubular, tube base not spurred or gibbous, lobes 5, abaxial 3, adaxial 2; stamens 2, adnate to corolla, filaments glabrous; staminode 0[2]; ovary 1[2]-locular, placentation parietal; stigma slightly 2-lobed, ± peltate. Fruits capsules, dehiscence loculicidal. Seeds 50–200, dark reddish brown, oblong-ovoid, wings absent. × = 7.
