Discussion

Variety crandallii is encountered in central and southwestern Colorado (Archuleta, Chaffee, Delta, Dolores, Eagle, Garfield, Gilpin, Grand, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Mesa, Montezuma, Montrose, Ouray, Park, Routt, and Teller counties) and San Juan County, Utah. Leaf indument is variable: typical var. crandallii has glabrate leaves; populations with scabrous leaves are not unusual.
