Stems decumbent to ascending, 4–15 cm, retrorsely hairy. Leaves glabrate or scabrous, 6–26 × (0.5–)1–5 mm; blade oblanceolate.
Phenology: Flowering May–Jul(–Aug).
Habitat: Sagebrush shrublands, pinyon-juniper and scrub oak woodlands.
Elevation: 1800–3400 m.
Discussion
Variety crandallii is encountered in central and southwestern Colorado (Archuleta, Chaffee, Delta, Dolores, Eagle, Garfield, Gilpin, Grand, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Mesa, Montezuma, Montrose, Ouray, Park, Routt, and Teller counties) and San Juan County, Utah. Leaf indument is variable: typical var. crandallii has glabrate leaves; populations with scabrous leaves are not unusual.
