Leaves: blade ovate to lanceolate, margins laciniate-dentate to irregularly laciniate-pinnatifid. Flowers: corolla 22–32 mm; staminode: distal 2–8 mm sparsely lanate, rarely glabrous; style 16–23 mm.

Phenology: Flowering May–Aug(–Sep).
Habitat: Talus slopes, cliffs, crevices, often in basalt.
Elevation: 30–1000 m.

Discussion

Variety richardsonii occurs mostly from the Columbia River to the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. A specimen (A. Kellogg & W. G. Harford 672, MO), collected in 1868 or 1869 and attributed to California, is doubtful as to locality.
