Annuals, biennials, or perennials. Stems branched mostly at or near mid heights, leafy toward bases. Leaves: basal blades oblanceolate, 0.5–2.5 cm wide; cauline narrowly elliptic (smaller distally); margins entire or serrate; faces hispid to ± sericeous. Peduncles at least 1/2 plant heights. 2n = 38.


Phenology: Flowering spring–summer.
Habitat: Meadows, pastures, old fields, roadsides
Elevation: 20–80 m

Discussion

Variety angustifolia grows along the Gulf coastal plain.
