Stems glabrous or puberulent, glandular. Leaves: blade margins entire, 3-lobed, or irregularly pinnatifid, pinnules linear, surfaces minutely scabrid. Pedicels 6–10 mm. Flowers: calyx lobes linear to lanceolate, margins entire; corolla yellow, with or without purple markings in throat, externally glabrous, internally pubescent in a ring at stamen insertion; filaments glabrous distally, anthers dehiscing to 1/4 length. Capsules symmetric, falcate, glabrous. Seeds irregularly shaped, wings absent.


Phenology: Flowering and fruiting Aug–Sep.
Habitat: Rocky slopes and ridges.
Elevation: 1200–1700 m.

Discussion

In the flora area, var. falcata is known from the Dead Horse Mountains of Brewster County (J. Fenstermacher 2006).
